Downshifting a manual valve body

 · When starting in Low, second or downshifting to second or Low, the trans then will be in the 'manual' mode and will only upshift when you change the lever position. The shift position will be the same as original. M. • For downshifting on hills, learn to double clutch to reduce wear on your vehicle and get a smooth shift. • Using only the brakes to slow the vehicle gives you more control, especially in slippery conditions. • When slowing in a manual car, simply brake until the tachometer drops to 1,rpm and then push in Estimated Reading Time: 9 mins.  · Quick Dirty. Most full manual valve bodies designed for drag racing, particularly with a trans brake, have no compression braking in first. They don't apply the low clutch/band and rely on the one-way roller sprag to transmit the power. Off the throttle they freewheel.

I have a c4 manual valve body reverse pattern with compression braking in 1st. I don't have my vacuum modulator hooked up. I think what he's saying is that's the only way to have braking is hook ups the modulator with that valve body. I'm sure someone makes a c6 manual valve body with compression braking. His option maybe cheaper than a new. Jun 9, Location: Westminster MD. It is a full manual valve body forward pattern. Instructions read: RACE TRACK ONLY: Remove the vacuum modulator and install the modulator plug. Make sure that the o-ring is in. place to prevent leaks. If you want to soften the shifts for street use, hook the vacuum line up to the modulator. Joined Jan 1, ·. 1, Posts. #7 · Jul 3, On , thekingofazle wrote: I disagree. You will have inadequate line pressure, IF you do not have a manual valve body. If by semi-manual you meant the car has a manual valve body, then no, you don't need the kickdown. With just a shift kit and shifting it by hand, you WILL.

Metaphorically, downshifting and then jumping on the gas with a manual vb lets the engine take a running start at kicking the sprag in the nuts. If you must downshift; lift off the accelerator, shift, then ease back on the gas till you load the sprag, then do whatever you heart desires. If you go with full manual valve body you will lose the "automatic" shifting and it will have to be manually shifted into each gear, so you will have to physically put the gear selector in 1, then 2, then 3, then 4 and back down again as you need to down shift. By channeling hydraulic fluid through a series of paths, the valve body is able to trigger the correct clutch pack for the selected gearing. Inside of the valve body, there are a number of valves, each of which is referred to by the shift that it’s responsible for. For example, the third-fourth valve activates the upshift from third to fourth gear, and the fourth-third determines when to downshift from the fourth to the third gear.
